Pretty Little Liars #8: Wanted is here!
New to the Smoot Library's Teen Shelf is the 8th and final book of Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series.
In Rosewood, majestic estates sprawl for acres, and Tiffany toggle bracelets dangle from every girl's wrist. But not all that glitters is gold, and the town harbors secrets darker than anyone could imagine—like the truth about what really happened the night Alison DiLaurentis went missing. . . .
Back in middle school, Ali plucked Emily, Hanna, Aria, and Spencer from obscurity and turned them into the beautiful, popular girls everyone wanted to be. Ali was the best friend they ever had. But she also made them do terrible things and taunted them with their worst secrets. Now, three years later, all their questions about Ali have finally been answered and they can put this awful chapter of their lives behind them. Or so they think.
Not every story has a happy ending, especially when four pretty little liars have done so many wicked things. In the dramatic conclusion of Sara Shepard's bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, Emily, Hanna, Aria, and Spencer could get everything they've ever wanted—unless A has one more horrifying twist in store.
For a longer preview into the book, check out a bit of the inside before requesting it here! If you're a fan of the series, you won't want to miss the exciting ending!

Hey Teens!
All teens ages 12-18 are welcome to apply! We are particularly looking for males right now, so that they are fairly represented on the Board. But girls, don't hesitate to apply, you will definitely be given consideration! :)
The Smoot Teen Advisory Board is looking to expand! Are you interested in volunteering your ideas to create better programming and services for teens at Smoot? Have suggestions for materials that you'd like to see here? Want to become a more active member of your community or maybe do some volunteer work?
The Teen Advisory Board is a great way to do these things as well as make new friends and have a good time in the process! If you're interested in joining TAB, please fill out an application and turn it in to Youth Services Librarian, Katie, or the Smoot front desk by May 15, 2011. You may print out a TAB Application available here, or come to the library and pick one up!

100 Hour Reading Contest!
Teens!
Only 4 more days to sign-up to participate in the 100 hour reading contest for National Library Week!
Remember-- you will be either on the Team #2 (Ages 10-13) or Team #3 (Ages 14-18) and you will be racing madly to reach 100 hours before the other two teams (Team #1 is of course, the little kids)... and the team to successfully get there first? Everyone on the team wins a prize!
You're also racing the people on your own team -- whoever reads the most hours for their team wins a separate prize as well -- one will be selected from each team.
Sign-up will continue through April 11, 2011 until the library closes. No sign-ups will be accepted after that. You may start turning in reading logs on Sunday April 10th to add ice cream scoops to your team's cone!
Daily tracker updates will be given on our Facebook page at 5pm so you can keep track of how your team is doing!
Remember -- ALL reading counts! Books, audiobooks, Manga, online fanfiction -- you read it? It counts! :)
Happy Reading!

TAB presented Theatrical Storytime
The Three Little Pigs story! |
Recently, the TAB members put on a great theatrical storytime for elementary-aged children at the Smoot Library on March 25, 2011! I have heard nothing but wonderful feedback from the children, parents of the children, and patrons who happened to be in the library at the time the teens were performing! Great job ladies!
Rapunzel in her tower! |
I have been receiving many comments and questions asking when the teens will perform again and when the next Theatrical Storytime will be! If you are between the ages of 12-18 and interested in helping out with the Theatrical Storytime, please shoot Katie an email at YSL1@smoot.org or join us at an upcoming TAB meeting to meet the current TAB members and volunteer to help out! This is a great opportunity to give back to your community and practice your acting skills if you enjoy theatre!

Upcoming Hangin With Stogie Concert
Ever heard of the band Hangin With Stogie? This pop-country group of young ladies just signed a record deal with Wally Cleaver's Recording Studio and has also been booking shows around the eastern U.S. to perform their songs like "American Soul" and "Summer All Year Long." You know where they're from?
Yep-- our own backyard -- Fredricksburg, VA! And they are coming to perform at Smoot Library on April 26th, 2011 at 7pm!!
Acoustic guitarist and songwriter, Casey Hargrove (14), joined up with keyboardist, drummer, songwriter, Christina Reese (11), and bassist, Abbie Snellings (11), to form this rockin' pop-country trio in March 2010. Since then, they have greatly risen in popularity throughout Central Virginia and the nation, bringing their positive message through the power of music to youth.
You won't want to miss this opportunity to see Hangin With Stogie live-- and FREE! Come to the Smoot Library Rockin' Country Night Tuesday, 4/26 to join in the fun! Free bandanas will be given out while supplies last!
For more information on the band, check out their website -- http://www.hanginwithstogie.com/.
